Our Section Leaders
Ali Jack (Tenor)
Ali was the founder and first chorus leader of Fascinating Rhythm. She has many singing accolades under her belt including singing with the past gold medal wining quartet, Havoc.
She says "I've been singing for as long as I can remember, but I didn't discover barbershop until 1986. I started my barbershop "career" singing baritine before moving to the tenors.
It didn't take long for the barbershop "bug" to take over, and with four friends, I decided to start our Chorus. Fascinating Rhythm was initially formed under the name "Rainbow".
Tie flies when you are having fun, and it's amazing to think that form a membershio of only five, meeting in a small back room at a local pub that our numbers have grown, and are still growing."
Karen Mellalieu (Lead)
Karen joined Fascinating Rhythm in 1998 to support a friend who didn't want to come along on her own. Whilst her friend left a few years later, Karen has continued to be a valued chorus member ever since.
"Lilke many members of the Chorus, I've been involved with music pretty much constantly since I was young. Throughout my childhood and teens, I sang in the school choir and later played in the schoold orchestra. The orchestra was rubbish, but the choir was a good one and sparked my passion for singing harmonies. It is now my privilege to encourage the "Diva" out of our excellent lead section."
Emma Beale (Baritone)
Emma joined Fascinating Rhythm in 2006 after a work colleague (Brenda, Bass Section Leader) persuaded her to attend a rehearsal.
"I've always loved singing and worked as a music teacher in primary schools for many years. As part of the job, I led children's choirs, but joining Fascinating Rhythm was the first time I'd sung in any kind of choir since my schooldays. I absolutely loved it - and still do.
I feel fortunate to be part of this fantastic group of women who offer such friendship, encouragement and support. FR is like my second family. I invited the whole chorus to my wedding and there was a great deal of singing that day!
It's a privilege to lead the baritone section. Not only do they work hard to learn a challenging line, but they also organise fabulous bari brunches!"
Brenda Roberts (Bass)
Brenda joined Fascinating Rhythm in . She says "My love for singing started in my school days when I was a member of the school choir - staying after school every Friday for rehearsak was the highlight of my week. My friends and I couldn't stop singing and used to "entertain" our fellow passengers on the bus journey home!
I really missed singing when I left school, but it wasn't until I came across Fascinating Rhythm, many years later, that I knew at last I had found the sort of group I had been searching for!
I'd gone to a Fascinating Rhythm open evening and couldn't believe the wonderful harmonies I was hearing - I was hooked from the very first song and just knew I had to be part of this amazing group.
I am very proud to be a member of Fascinatig Rhythm and it is an honour to lead our fabulous bass section. Singing is the most wonderful, uplifting hobby which I would recommend to everyone."
